June 9, 2013 – Judges 6 – In Discouragement

Today’s passage: Judges 6:1-6

Discouragement is nothing new to anyone who has ever lived in this world. It comes to us merely “because [we] are human”. There are times when we reach that point of desperation and depression and cry out, “Lord, what do you want me to do?” How do we get back up?

The Bible provides many examples of people in discouragement, most of which are far worse than our own experiences. BUT the Bible also shows a loving god who listens intently and actually does something about our situations.

June 2, 2013 – Judges 3 – In Testing

Today’s passage: Judges 3:1-4

Pop quizzes, possibly the most dreaded of all forms of tests, are effective in allowing us to learn just how prepared we really are. When was the last time you experienced a pop quiz? What about ones from the Lord? Why does the Lord test us? What does the Lord hope to achieve through testing and trials?

We find plenty of examples through Scripture. Here, we focus on Israel’s test of character and trust in the Lord as they look towards taking the land God has given to them. As frustrating as tests are, this message speaks of how tests serve great purposes for teaching and training the people of the Lord.

May 26, 2013 – 2 Corinthians 9 – In Unselfishness

Today’s passage: 2 Corinthians 9:6-7

When it comes to unselfishness, it’s not just about money, but about giving ourselves. It is as much about generosity as it is about joy. Do we anticipate and look forward to giving, or do we count the lost pennies?

There are plenty of models of generosity throughout the Bible, the greatest of which was Jesus’ sacrifice. Do we follow these examples? Though tithing and giving is sometimes a touchy subject in church, an honest message on the blessing of generosity is coupled with the acknowledgement that giving is ultimately a personal issue between ourselves and God.

May 19, 2013 – Psalm 90 – In Overcoming the Blahs

Today’s passage: Psalm 90

How do we overcome “the blahs”, doing the same thing over and over again, getting weary and feeling empty? What does the Lord say about this matter in how we are to act, react, and interact with the Lord and our neighbors? The best thing to do is to turn to Scripture to remember where we should be instead of being in the blahs, so tune in and find out what’s next!
