March 31, 2013 – John 20 – The Empty Tomb and You

Today’s passage: John 20:1-9

Easter! It is a great time of celebration and active acknowledgment that Jesus reigns! But do we actually understand what we are celebrating, or why? In this sermon, the facts surrounding the events of Easter are laid bare for each and every one of us to draw our own conclusions or insist on ignorance. What we choose will show in how we live our lives, whether in acceptance and loving reaction to the Lord’s claims or worldly indifference.

Today’s passage: John 12:12-26

Expectations. The expectations of the crowd as Jesus came into Jerusalem were not the same as the acts of scriptural fulfillment that Jesus had for the people. Similarly, what kind of expectations do we have of the Lord that are also inaccurate? What about the expectations of the Lord? What are the expectations surrounding Christians?

March 17, 2013 – Numbers 13 – In Vision

Today’s passage: Numbers 13:25-33

“As we continue our study in excellence and rising above the mediocre and not just doing our best, but doing God’s best through us, we look at vision and seeing beyond the majority and seeing beyond what is obvious…We know sometimes living as a Christian is not easy. Indeed, I would daresay it is very difficult.” Yet, Christians continue to live and exude joy in their Christian identity. Today, we emphasize on the vision that God has in store for us and has shown us through Christ, the same perspective that drives Christians to live courageously.

March 10, 2013 – Mark 14 – In Excessive Love

Today’s passage: Mark 14:1-9

“Show me the love.” In our lives, we can be and should be searching for excellence. One of these aspects of excellence is extravagant love. As God loves us extravagantly, so we naturally respond by loving those around us and especially back to God. Here, we find Jesus walking around Jerusalem speaking the truth in love when he encounters a woman with the jar of pure nard and her extravagant love for her Lord and Savior. How does her example of extravagant love apply to our modern lives? In a similar situation, what will we do when have such excess as she had of her precious perfume?
